What is a Trash Chute?
A trash chute transports waste from floors to a central waste collection room through fire-resistant chute covers. Located in common areas within the building, these chutes make manual collection of waste from individual floors a thing of the past.
How Does It Work?
Under normal circumstances, household waste and recyclables are separated by hand, deposited through separate chute doors, and dropped into a bin located on the ground floor or in the basement of the building. The manually separated, valuable recyclables are then baled and collected. The waste is then transported to dumpsters, emptied, and returned.
What are the Main Components of a Trash Chute System?
The main components of a chute include a ventilation shaft, chute pipes, chute throats, inlet units, anti-vibration mounting brackets, slowdown elbows, outlet fire damper, trash chute cover, brush and winch, main flush solenoid valves, disinfection tank, and dosing pump. Fire and sprinkler lines are connected to sprinklers via PPR pipes, and an electrical panel controls and monitors the electrically operated roof fan, flushing system, and electrical covers from a single location.
